Greetings and Happy New
Year!
We,
your humble writing staff (yeah… right), want Eureka Unscripted to be the BEST unauthorized-authorized-sci
fi-TV-writing-staff-slash-what’s-on-our-minds-blog OF ALL TIME.
To do that, we put it to you guys: what do you want to see on this blog?
Leave
a comment telling US what
you’d like to see here at Eureka Unscripted, and please, no story ideas. Sorry, but legally we can't accept or consider any brilliance but our own.
All
righty, then. Let the fun commence!
Sincerely,
The Eureka Gang
EDIT: Sorry, everyone, in clarifying this post we had to delete comments. Please re-post your suggestions on blog features and topics. Many thanks!

I'd love to hear bits and pieces of how you put the stories together. If there were bits that didn't fit in the episode, but don't give away anything else - could you share those, please? I'm not a writer so I hope I made myself, at least, somewhat clear. Also any background you've made up for the characters. I love your stories and am really looking forward to more. Thanks for blogging!

I would like to see the cast chime in to this blog...sort of a blogcast. I know Joe Morton is a prolific writer having penned scripts and Jordon Hinson has as well. Certainly, these two are not all inclusive so you could probably draft other members of the cast to contribute.

I'm not exactly sure what you want then, can we still say what we like or don't like about the show, who we want to stay or go? Or make casting suggestions?
For your blog, it would be nice if you talk about how you come up with a story, what ideas you rejected and what it's like to be in the writer's room. What you REALLY think about the various characters...
You could do polls about the episodes?
Post pictures? Release small little spoilers?
Have contests and give away show related bling?

I'd like to see Anderson and Judge from SG1 as a scifi actor guest appearance. Always enjoy the non-major story-plots that are less serious and span several episodes (not like the bunker mystery). Always enjoy strange and fun science. Disliked the product placement :(

--Behind the scenes pics, stories/anecdotes from set.
--'Guest bloggers', especially cast members.
--MORE COMMENTARIES/PODCASTS! (especially with a mix of actors AND crew/writers) Colin's S1 podcast commentaries are what truly sold me on the show. The shocking lack of them in S2/S3 made the DVDs seems very lackluster and almost regrettable purchases.
--Talk about WHY you make what choices you make(locations, scripts, characters, etc.) either on the blog or in podcast/commentaries. Things you guys might not think we'd find interesting just might surprise you.
-- Interactive fan activities either on the show or blog level. (ala the phone # and the 'Who is Mary Perkins?' thing)
-- Actual updates! Call me a skeptic, but we've been given a blog/site/some promises a few times and they've failed to live up to the expectation. If you're going to go on hiatus, take the minute to post something rather than just leaving everyone in the dark. You don't have to be perfect, just communicative.

Why not talk about the process? I follow to a book publishers blog and often times, the authors blog about where their ideas come from or what affects the choices they make when they write. It would be interesting to see the thought processes you guys have when working.
It would also be nice to maybe have the cast guest blog or podcast every now and then. As fans, it's really nice to see the cast take an interest in us and just sharing is a really nice way to do that. It would be interesting to hear or read the actor's take on their character.

The guest blogging suggestions are good ones, along with the suggestions of b-t-s photos, but I'd prefer if you'd focus more on the process of putting together the episodes. The how/why of writing is the reason for me to visit.
How about providing links to any material that helped to inform you about the real-world science in any given episode. A little "The Actual Science Behind…" kind of post.
After an episode airs, you could give us a look at the story-boarding process that was happening during the writing of said episode.
If anyone 'shepherds' a character or story-arc, how about a little feature on how a character or story beat is thought-up and why that direction was chosen.
A bio or feature on each of the writers would be welcome as well. A little background on them, what they've worked on in the past, favorite movies/shows/books, things that got them started writing and their process/routine when they sit down to write would be good ground to cover.
Regardless of the direct you chose to take, thanks for a peek behind the curtain.

Already planning a "Science Behind the Fiction" weekly feature to coincide with episodes as they air. Sound cool?

I really liked that q and a session you guys did a few times on the old site. I already have a few to ask... Is Mary Perkins (Eva Thorne) related to Walter and Susan Perkins at all because in such a small town so many people with the same last name and not be related sounds hinkie? Is Jordan Hinson coming back now that her other show got canceled I love her as an actor and love her character Zoe Carter (if she doesn't i wish her all the luck). I liked everyone's ideas epsically the "science behind the fiction" thing. love the show. so happy about the 20 eps not just 9 or 10 or 13. keep up the blog it gives me something to surf at work and when bored.

This site should have something to give the fans a reason to regularly check it in their daily surfing and also give something until the next season airs. Here are some ideas:
1-Some mini-episodes or web-isodes to tide fans over until the next season.
2-Some production art/ideas about the upcoming season.
3-Some lost scripts pages that never made it to an episode showing deleted scenes or alternative endings to episodes.
4-Maybe release some left-over footage or some new footage pre-fx work. Then make a competition letting fans add their own special effects. You could even give prizes like some old Eureka props, picture in an episode, guest appearance, name in credits, Eureka character named after you, etc....
5-Web-comics like Heroes or Firefly have, maybe episodic. Add a feedback system to see what new ideas/approaches the audience likes and dislikes. Like a testing group. Also throw in some sponsors, because happy sponsors = more episodes for us fans.
Maybe the fan-produced products will give this show some exposure to people who have never seen it, and could also give the crew some ideas for future episodes? Just some ideas...

Honestly as long as you keep it updated I'll be happy :D

If the musical episode isn't just a rumor, I'd be interested in seeing how you go about writing and developing an episode like that. I figure it must be a big change from writing a normal episode - like, does any one on the staff have experience writing lyrics, or do you have to go find outside people like that? Do you end up involving the people who do the music more in the writing?

I'd love to see you pass the blog along to some of the actors, even if it's a quick "Hey, how's everyone, this is what's going on right this minute" type thing.

I just want Nathan Stark back. Please guys??? He's only stuck in a time vortex somewhere and could come back (as long as Ed Quinn still plays him of course).
Please bring back Nathan Stark.

As far as actors, we have little control over who stays and who goes. Those decisions are rarely creative ones.

Personally, I'd be happy just to see you continue the series for oh, lets say another 20 years. The lack of substantial science fiction on the air is disturbing, and why else do think Star Trek was on syndication for so long. Write it well and you too may have a subculture of your own.

How long until we see a hoverboard action scene?
Posted by: Tim S | 02/01/2010 at 04:23 PM
How about behind the scenes pics, writer/actors answer questions we could post? Maybe some short tidbits about what all of you do off-season- vacations, hobbies, etc???? How about some new wallpapers, mp3 of the theme??? Thanks!

Some contests? With prizes! Like Eureka tee shirts, or Joe Morton's hat, the one he used to wear backwards! :)
